The reality of a pregnant street dog having to manage giving birth on the streets breaks anyone’s heart. This is not to mention the unfair treatment they face due to human insensitivity and lack of compassion. On the other hand, many dogs spend their days in shelters waiting for the right people to invite them into a life of true love.

While they have shelter and food alongside wonderful people who care for them, these furry friends want to feel truly special and be part of someone’s life who loves them unconditionally.

A dog’s labor can last between 3 and 12 hours. Fortunately, there are many animal lovers who open their homes to provide new opportunities for the most vulnerable dogs.

Chris and Mariesa are a dog-loving couple who, despite already having 12 dogs at home, continue to visit different shelters to change the lives of more dogs. When a dog’s vulva starts to swell, it means she’s going into labor. During one of their visits, they came across Storie, a sweet pregnant dog who was hoping for a stroke of luck to give birth to her puppies away from the shelter.

Storie was already about to give birth but refused to go into labor in the shelter’s conditions. When Chris and Mariesa saw her, they knew she was the right dog to take home.

Dogs also experience contractions that can cause them great pain. Due to her condition, it seemed she could give birth at any moment, so the couple wanted to ensure that it happened in a completely comfortable and prepared environment for her.

After leaving the shelter, they took her to the vet where she underwent an ultrasound. Incredibly, sweet Storie had 12 puppies inside her belly.

It is recommended to prepare a small space for the dog to give birth. Chris and Mariesa prepared everything for the dog to give birth at home, and soon the 12 puppies would meet the outside world.

But it wasn’t long before Storie went into labor; just 18 hours after being taken out of the shelter, the new mom was giving birth in a loving home.

Their tender story has touched thousands of hearts. The dog-loving couple was completely thrilled to witness such a unique moment. It seemed like a perfect triangle full of love where Chris, Mariesa, and Storie welcomed the 12 new puppies.

The following days were filled with total tenderness; Storie enjoyed her puppies as they grew, feeding directly from her chest. Chris and Mariesa fell in love with one puppy each, so they decided to keep them forever. The rest of the puppies were put up for adoption.

Storie will share the rest of her life with two of her puppies and other furry friends. Thanks to Pibbles and Mores Animal Rescue, all the puppies were able to find loving homes. How wonderful to know that there are people like Chris and Mariesa; the world needs more people like them, animal lovers.

It’s really tough to think about the very different fate that awaited this sweet mother if it weren’t for this heroic couple. Perhaps she could have been euthanized due to depression or simply because no one would have adopted her. Open the doors of your home, but above all, open the doors of your heart and change a dog’s life. There are many dogs in shelters waiting to feel loved. Dare to adopt knowing that the first life to change will be yours.
