According to reports from Set News, doctors at Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan recently treated a case involving a 4-month-old boy admitted to the hospital with a concave head due to parental negligence. Describing the condition, doctors likened the shape of the baby’s head to that of a bitten-off apple. This incident highlights the dangers of neglecting child safety in vehicles, a habit prevalent among 90% of Vietnamese parents.
The boy sustained the injury when his father, who was driving, experienced a strong impact, causing the baby’s head to hit the front panel of the car, resulting in a 5 cm concavity in the skull.
Dr. Hsu Mei-hsin of Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital noted that upon admission, the boy’s skull deformation was severe. Fortunately, a CT scan revealed no signs of intracranial hemorrhage. After a successful operation to restore the skull to its original position, the boy’s head returned to normal, and he regained consciousness, eventually being discharged from the hospital after a week of treatment.
The successful surgery brings hope for the boy’s recovery, with doctors emphasizing the fortunate outcome given the potential for paralysis, brain damage, or even death from intracranial hemorrhage or stronger impact.
Dr. Hsu Mei-hsin urged parents to prioritize child safety by always using a child safety seat properly installed in vehicles. This incident has prompted authorities and experts to emphasize the importance of ensuring the safety of children under 4 years old while traveling in cars, advocating for the use of child safety seats to prevent injuries and fatalities resulting from adult negligence.
