A baby born in India with a rare condition, resulting in four arms and four legs, has been hailed as a reincarnation of God and likened to Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of good fortune who is depicted with multiple arms.

Reportedly, both the child’s mother (identified as Kareena, with no surname provided) and the infant are in good health.

According to the Independent, local media outlets are converging on the scene to witness what is described as a “miracle of nature” after the baby’s birth over the weekend.

The identity of the family and the underlying cause of the extra limbs remain a mystery. However, the baby’s condition is believed to be attributed to polymelia, a rare condition that leads to the presence of extra and non-functional limbs in humans. Polymelia occurs due to aberrant development along the body axis, resulting in the duplication of lower limbs, leading to the presence of five or more limbs – although such a significant number is extremely rare.

The baby was delivered at the Shahabad Community Health Centre in Uttar Pradesh and is expected to lead a healthy life.
